Why does a normally placid cat suddenly start running, jumping &
howling through the house, as if his tail was on fire?

Enquiring minds want to know!

I'm going with ants in his pants (j/k). Bad dream? My cats race around after a really good poop. But not with howling.

You may be on to something Studio524. I just checked the weather forecast for the week. Even though it's sunny today the forecast says rain's-a-coming tonight & it's supposed to last all week. But he (Tipper) does this from time to time. I think he just has a screw loose or somethin'! ;-)

Hmmm. Have you, in fact, checked to see that his tail is NOT on fire?

I was thinking earthquake, too.

Animals do have that extra sensitive sensitivity that we humans just don't have.

Hmmm... maybe it's Tipper's way of getting exercise?

Sometimes one of the Miao Bros will do that - Lotus especially. He barks like a dog while he runs. His brothers don't participate (except to get out of his way), so I don't think it's something weather-related in that case. Tantra races around the house, too (meeeowing). In fact, several of them do it, but never at the same time.

LOL I call them cat fits... and they seem unrelated to much of anything.. Magneto does tehm but usually out side and of course lilac does them and when we had Tuffy he would do them at least once a month. THen he would be hanging around with those big spooky eyes.. IT used to crack me up.. maybe the house ghost did pinch them. o-0
